Light flyweight has a weight limit of 108 pounds. It was first recognized by the National Boxing Association in 1921, but the boxing weight division was disbanded in 1929. The WBC decided to bring the weight class back in the 1970s and it is now recognized by the WBA, IBF, and WBO.

lightweights-2-2048x1313.jpgIn the early nineteenth century, there were no standard weight classes. In 1823, the Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue said the limit for a "light weight" was 12 stone (168 lb, 76.2 kg) while Sportsman's Slang the same year gave 11 stone (154 lb, 69.9 kg) as the limit.

In January 2022, in a class-action lawsuit filed against the cryptocurrency company EthereumMax that alleged the company is a pump and dump scheme, Mayweather was named as a defendant along with media personality Kim Kardashian, former NBA player Paul Pierce, and other celebrities for promoting the EthereumMax token on their social media accounts. In December 2022, Central California U.S. District Court Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald dismissed the lawsuit on the basis that the claims were insufficiently supported given heightened pleading standards for fraud.

Remember, boxing is not just about size and weight, but also about skill, technique, and determination. Find the weight class that suits you best and continue to train hard to reach your goals in the sport. Good luck in your boxing journey!

Light Heavyweights bring a notable increase in power while still retaining a significant level of agility and speed. Boxers in this class are adept at utilizing powerful strikes with a high degree of technical skill. The physical demands for light heavyweights include developing greater muscular strength and power, without compromising too much on speed. The fighting style in this class often involves a mix of aggressive power punching and precise, tactical boxing welterweight boxers.

By the 4th century bce, the simple ox-hide thongs described in the Iliad had been replaced by what the Greeks called "sharp thongs," which had a thick strip of hard leather over the knuckles that made them into lacerative weapons. Although the Greeks used padded gloves for practice, not dissimilar from the modern boxing glove, these gloves had no role in actual contests. The Romans developed a glove called the caestus (cestus) that is seen in Roman mosaics and described in their literature; this glove often had lumps of metal or spikes sewn into the leather. The caestus is an important feature in a boxing match in Virgil’s Aeneid (1st century bce). The story of the match between Dares and Entellus is majestically told in this passage from the pugilism article in the 11th edition of Encyclopædia Britannica:

The Greeks considered boxing the most injurious of their sports. A 1st-century-bce inscription praising a pugilist states, "A boxer’s victory is gained in blood." In fact, Greek literature offers much evidence that the sport caused disfigurement and, occasionally, even death. An amazingly bloody bout is recounted by Homer in the Iliad (c. 675 bce):

This division has been an exciting and competitive weight class featuring a mix of explosive power, technical skill and strategic brilliance. Fighters like Beterbiev, Bivol, Yarde, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Joshua Buatsi, and Callum Smith have contributed significantly to the wellbeing of the division.

While both fighters were the same age (23), Corrales had several physical advantages over Mayweather: two inches in height, an inch in reach and (despite both arriving at the official weight-in at the 130-lb super-featherweight limit) unofficially 146 lbs, versus Mayweather's 136.mw-parser-output .sfrac .mw-parser-output .sfrac.tion,.mw-parser-output .sfrac .tion .mw-parser-output .sfrac .num .mw-parser-output .sfrac .den .mw-parser-output .sr-only 1/2 lbs. In the bout, Mayweather won every round and knocked down Corrales five times (three times in round 7 and twice in round 10). After the fifth knockdown, Corrales' cornermen climbed onto the apron and stopped the fight, thereby establishing Mayweather as a claimant to boxing's mythical pound-for-pound title. At the time of the stoppage, Mayweather was ahead on the scorecards, leading by 89–79, 90–79, and 90–78. Throughout the fight, HBO commentators analyzed Mayweather.
